Annual Memorial Service

Congregation Shirat Hayam Cemetery, Peabody

It is customary during the High Holy Days to visit your loved ones at the cemetery. Please join Rabbi Michael and Cantor Sarah on Sunday, September 24 at 11 am at the Shirat Hayam Cemetery on Lowell Street in Peabody. We will gather in the area in the rear between the two sections.

Hard copies of the NEW Congregation Shirat Hayam Bereavement Book are available in the CSH office.

Lifecycle Events

Our clergy and staff are here to celebrate life’s moments and grieve its losses with you. Members* are entitled to celebrate milestone lifecycle events (births/namings, Bar/Bat Mitzvah (Requirements), Weddings, simchah recognition ie birthdays and anniversaries) during Shabbat services or otherwise.

Members* are entitled to clergy services for funerals and memorial services and reduced rates on cemetery plots in our cemetery (*two year membership commitment to qualify).

Monthly Yahrzeits

Monthly yahrzeits that are read during our daily services. Notices are sent to the observer by the middle of the prior month. These notices are a privilege of membership. Non-members are eligible to receive notices and have their loved one’s name read with a donation to offset the costs of this service. Your loved one’s name is read 3 times, the evening before, the morning and evening on the day of the occurrence. Electronic Memorial Board

Click the image above to search our Electronic Yahrzeit Database for your loved one. Once the first name appears, click the screen to search a name. Names listed in this database have been transferred from the bronze memorial plaques originally displayed in Temple Israel, Temple Beth El and Anshai S’fard synagogues. (These are NOT our yahrzeit names that are read for daily minyan. Please click the separate link, “monthly” Yahrzeits for those names.)

If you would like to add a photograph, biography, relationships to other listings, or Hebrew names/dates to an already existing listing, please contact Barri Stein (Barri@ShiratHayam.org or call office, ext. 11). If you think your loved one had a reserved plaque and has passed away, please contact us to add them to the system. If you would like at add a new listing, the current cost is $180 and please contact Barri Stein.

Our Electronic Memorial Board is housed in our Memorial Alcove in the lobby of Shirat Hayam. Feel free to visit us (proof of vax and mask required) to access the Board in person.

Cemetery

Congregation Shirat Hayam owns and manages* the Shirat Hayam of the North Shore Cemetery, Temple Beth El section and Temple Israel section on Lowell Street in Peabody, MA for Jewish families as well as the Temple Beth El and Temple Israel Interfaith section (one person must be of Jewish faith).

Cemetery plots are available for sale for Shirat Hayam members and non-members. For more information or for assistance please contact Barri Stein.

If you or your family owns a plot in either section, it is very important that your information in our files is current and permissions for burials are in place and in writing prior to an interment. Contact us.
