B'nei Mitzvah Requirements

Becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah can be a most meaningful milestone in the Jewish Life Cycle, for the student as well as their family.

Students and families who wish to receive the privilege and responsibility of becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah must make a commitment to their Jewish education.  Therefore, students must be enrolled and attend classes at CJE or Epstein Hillel Academy, through the end of Kitah Zayin (7th grade), regardless of when the Bar or Bat Mitzvah occurs.  Individual Jewish learning plans may be discussed with the CJE Director in the event of distance or an individual’s timeline.

Students must demonstrate growth in their Jewish learning and commitment, either through mastery of the CJE curriculum or the Epstein Hillel curriculum through grade 7.  In the case of students with special learning challenges, a team including the Cantor, the CJE Director, the Inclusion Specialist, the parents and the student will come together to craft and individualized and meaningful Bar or Bat Mitzvah ceremony that celebrate the unique strengths of every student.

Synagogue and Hebrew School financial obligations must be satisfied.

It is expected that all students in the grade will be invited to the Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration as well as make their best efforts to attend every Bar/Bat Mitzvah service to support classmates in a holy community.
